The Young Social Innovators Awards 2011

The CDPC would like to congratulate the Presentation College Carlow , who won first prize in the category “Making Our World One World” at The Young Social Innovators Awards 2011 in City West. Their project “Youth Alive, Alert, Enthusiastic” raised awareness on HIV and AIDS and the importance of Stamping out Stigma! The students have produced a booklet on the issues of stigma. This will be available to schools. The students also wrote and produced a short play “Stamp Out Stigma”. This drama was created by the student’s as part of our Y.S.I. on HIV and AIDS. They performed the drama to several other schools at a Development Issues workshop in NUI Maynooth.
The CDPC are helping the students to produce a DVD of the drama. The school did their project in partnership with a school in Zambia and both schools are creating a permanent mural in their schools based on the issue of stigma and HIV and AIDS.
They worked very hard on their project and it will help others students to have a greater understanding of HIV and AIDS and the importance of stamping out stigma. We would like to thank their teacher Ms Territt for her commitment to Development Education in her school. The CDPC was privileged to work with the school and our former alumni were delighted to give workshops on HIV and AIDS to the students.
