Self Help Africa
Self Help Africa is an international development agency that has been working for 25 years, tackling poverty and improving livesin rural Africa. Self Help Africa’s focus is assiting families and communities to grow enough food to feed themselves and to earn a sustainable living. The all-African staff and local partners work at grassroots level, bringing simple and effective innovations to arming, managing natural resources, and helping people access basic services like clean water, healthcare and education. This work is carried on in Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Togo, Uganda and Zambia. The Development Education programme, Africa Alive, focuses on awareness and action programmes with secondary schools. |

Centre for Global Development Through Education, Mary Immaculate College
The Centre for Global Development though Education (CGDE) is based at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. This Centre is the first of its kind in Ireland. The Centre's work is funded by Irish Aid, a division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and this funding is administered through the HEA (Higher Education Authority, Ireland). The aim of the Centre (CGDE) is to contribute to poverty reduction by enhancing the quality of basic education through capacity building in teacher education in Africa. The institutional members of the Centre who are represented on the Centre's Steering Committee are from various teacher education departments/faculties from other Higher Educational Institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland, including the University sector; the various Colleges of Education as well as some NGOs (see www.cgde.ie for further details). |
