Concern

Concern's mission is to help people living in extreme poverty achieve major improvements in their lives. Concern works with the poor themselves, and with local and international partners who share the organisation’s vision, to create just and peaceful societies where the poor can exercise their fundamental rights.

 

Trócaire

In its role as an advocate for the poor, Trócaire raises public awareness in Ireland of poverty and injustice. It analyses the causes of poverty and mobilises the Irish public to campaign to bring about global change.

 

Self Help Africa

Self Help Africa is an international development agency that has been working for 25 years, tackling poverty and improving livesin rural Africa. Self Help Africa’s focus is assiting families and communities to grow enough food to feed themselves and to earn a sustainable living. The all-African staff and local partners work at grassroots level, bringing simple and effective innovations to arming, managing natural resources, and helping people access basic services like clean water, healthcare and education. This work is carried on in Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.

The Development Education programme, Africa Alive, focuses on awareness and action programmes with secondary schools. 

 

NUI Maynooth

NUI Maynooth is committed to being a first class research-led centre of learning and academic discovery. It is located on a pleasant university campus in Ireland's only university town 20 km west of Dublin, and has recently undergone a major phase of expansion in research, teaching and service facilities.

As the authority for higher education and research in Ireland, the Higher Education Authority (HEA) have strategic advisory powers for all institutions in the third-level education sector, in order to further the development of higher education. In addition it is the funding authority for universities and a select number of other higher education facilities.

 

Irish Aid

Irish Aid is the Irish Government's assistance programme for developing countries, and is committed to aiding peace and justice and development overseas, as part of Ireland's wider foreign policy.

 

St. James's Hospital, Dublin

Founded in 1727, St. James's Hospital in Dublin is a teaching hospital that aims to provide premium care to the maximum number of patients, while working to nurture new healthcare skills and develop new treatments to save lives.

 

The Martin Ryan Institute, NUI Galway

The Martin Ryan Institute (MRI) is the home of marine science research at NUI Galway. The MRI now serves as a regional, national and international Centre of Excellence for the study of marine and freshwater resources. Through its basic and applied research programmes it promotes the exploration and development of marine physical resources, increases understanding of aquatic biodiversity, analyses effects of environmental change on aquatic ecosystems and facilitates sustainable development of aquatic biological resources and aquaculture.

 

Kimmage Development Studies Centre

The Kimmage Development Studies Centre works to facilitate higher education and training courses for development professionals. From April 2003 they have concentrated upon significant development in East Africa, to build capacity and develop links with other development organisations in the region.

 

Centre for Global Development Through Education, Mary Immaculate College

The Centre for Global Development though Education (CGDE) is based at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. This Centre is the first  of its kind in Ireland. The Centre's work is funded by Irish Aid, a division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and this funding is administered through the HEA (Higher Education Authority, Ireland). The aim of the Centre (CGDE) is to contribute to poverty reduction by enhancing the quality of basic education through capacity building in teacher education in Africa. The institutional members of the Centre who are represented on the Centre's Steering Committee are from various teacher education departments/faculties from other Higher Educational Institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland, including the University sector; the various Colleges of Education as well as some NGOs (see www.cgde.ie for further details).

 

MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation

MS-TCDC is a Danish non-profit institution working throughout Eastern and Southern Africa to provide high quality training and facilities for reflection and learning to civil society organisations and their partners.

 

Makerere University, Uganda

One of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Africa, Makerere University has 22 faculties, institutes and schools providing quality teaching, research facilities, and professional services for over 30,000 undergraduates and 3,000 post-graduates. Makerere has been a home for many post-independence African leaders, and a focal point for the literary activity that was central to African nationalist culture.

 

Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) formerly existed as Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences which was a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam. Since 2007, MUHAS became an autonomous and the only public university in Tanzania responsible for the training of human resources for health.

 

Egerton University, Kenya

The university offers many exciting academic programs. Students can receive a three year diploma, a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, or a PhD. In 2005 the University established a partnership with Western Michigan University that allows students to complete half of their degree at Egerton and finish their studies at WMU.

 

Kenya Medical Research Institute

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is one of East Africa's leading medical research centres. Its mission to improve the quality of health and human life through research, in Kenya, and globally. KEMRI has played an important role in the fight against malaria, HIV/AIDS and other diseases present in sub-Saharan Africa.

 

University Of Nairobi

The university offers innovative, relevant and market driven academic programmes, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with inbuilt quality control systems the university also provides an environment and policy framework for undertaking high quality and relevant research.

 

SPW Tanzania

SPW Tanzania is a youth-led, youth-orientated NGO which harnesses the energy and talents of educated young volunteers so that they can empower others to make more informed decisions about their health, and crucially, reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.

 

Tropical Diseases Research Centre

The Tropical Diseases Research Centre (TDRC) is a biomedical research Centre established by the World Health Assembly in 1977 and located in Ndola, Zambia. The (TDRC) was initiated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in collaboration with the Zambian Government. Activities of the institute include epidemiological and clinical re- search in malaria, schistosomiasis African trypanosomiasis, HIV/AIDS, micronutrient deficiencies, health systems research, health impact and evaluation, training and service. .
