The African Malaria Network Trust

The mission of AMANET is to promote capacity strengthening and networking of malaria R&D in Africa. Although the primary goal of AMANET has remained malaria vaccine development, the organisation in its expanded role includes other intervention measures such as antimalaria drugs and vector control. AMANET's broad objective is to continue developing self-sustainable centres in Africa that meet international requirements for conducting malaria intervention trials.

African Technology Development Forum

ATDF collects and disseminates information on inventions by institutions; firms and communities; emerging technologies; trends in technology, innovation and trade policies. ATDF also provides a virtual showroom for inventions and products and assists to organise technology fairs.

AMREF

AMREF is the continent’s leading health development organisation, with offices in 5 Eastern and Southern African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda, and field offices in Somalia and Sudan. Each year, AMREF trains health professionals from countries all over the African Continent. AMREF’s headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya.

AVERT

AVERT is an international HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK, with the aim of AVERTing HIV and AIDS worldwide. AVERT has a number of overseas projects, helping with the problem of HIV/AIDS in countries where there is a particularly high rate of infection, such as South Africa, or where there is a rapidly increasing rate of infection such as in India.

BIO Ventures for Global Health

BIO Ventures for Global Health harnesses the resources of the biotechnology industry to create new medicines for neglected diseases of the developing world. Their mission is to break down barriers that hinder industry involvement in global health product development and to catalyse new industry investment.

Centres for Diseases Control and Prevention

CDC's highly trained physicians, epidemiologists, public health advisors, behavioral scientists, and laboratory scientists work side by side with Ministries of Health and other partners, through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, to combat HIV/AIDS in more than 60 countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

The Centre for Innovation Against Malaria (CIAM)

CIAM - Public Health Research & Development Centre bridges the gap between the health needs of people in West Africa, national health policies and relevant research. We focus on priority diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS, work with researchers, policy makers, health service providers and the general public.

Contact Point Network Africa

CPN-Africa is a contact point network (CPN) to guide young African scientists (YAS) into the research grants on poverty related diseases provided by 7th Research Framework Programme of the European Union. The objective of the project is the implementation of a network of Regional and Local Contact Points (RCPs and LCPs) in sub-Saharan Africa which will provide information about funding opportunities, raise awareness for the programme, provide training for scientists interested to apply and assist them in proposal writing and during the project execution.

The Disease Control Priorities Project (DCPP)

The Disease Control Priorities Project (DCPP) is an ongoing effort to assess disease control priorities and produce evidence-based analysis and resource materials to inform health policymaking in developing countries. DCPP has produced three volumes providing technical resources that can assist developing countries in improving their health systems and ultimately, the health of their people.

Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDI)

DNDi fosters collaboration both amongst developing countries and between developing and developed countries. Its design is a blend of centralised management to give it a clear project-specific focus, and decentralised operations that mimic modern drug companies. DNDi doesn’t conduct research and scientific work to develop drugs itself. Instead, it capitalises on existing, fragmented R&D capacity, especially in the developing world, and complements it with additional expertise as needed. This “virtual organisation” model helps cut costs.

GAVI Alliance

The GAVI Alliance is a unique, multi-dimensional partnership of public and private sector resources with a single, shared focus: to improve child health in the poorest countries by extending the reach and quality of immunisation coverage within strengthened health services.

The Global Bioscience Development Institute

Global Bioscience Development Institute (GBDI) is a world-leading organisation in the field of bioscience development, bioprospecting, biotechnology and related law. GBDI supports and nurtures efforts of developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to create coherent strategies that leverage their human and natural resources.

The Global Network

Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (The Global Network) is a member organisation formed in 2006 to raise the profile of neglected diseases and to stimulate a paradigm shift in disease control efforts. The aim of the Global Network is to contribute toward achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by eliminating and controlling the neglected diseases through an integrated mass drug delivery approach.

Global Network

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created to dramatically increase resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need. As a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and affected communities, the Global Fund represents an innovative approach to international health financing.

Health & Development Networks

Health & Development Networks (HDN) is a leading facilitator of information, dialogue and advocacy approaches on HIV and TB, and was established as an Irish non-profit organisation in 1998 and as a Thai Foundation in 2003. Underpinning all of HDN’s work is the mantra ‘Speak Your World’, which focuses on increasing the voices of those least able to to speak out, including those of marginalised/isolated groups, communities and individuals affected by HIV and TB.

Healthlink Worldwide provides expertise in communication, knowledge management and learning. We work with organisations and institutions at all levels, from local and national NGOs to national and international decision-making bodies.

International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI)

IAVI’s mission is to ensure the development of safe, effective, accessible, preventive HIV vaccines for use throughout the world. IAVI is a global not-for-profit, public-private partnership working to accelerate the development of a vaccine to prevent HIV infection and AIDS. Founded in 1996, IAVI researches and develops vaccine candidates, conducts policy analyses, and serves as an advocate for the field with offices in Africa, India, and Europe. As the world’s only organisation focused solely on the development of an AIDS vaccine, IAVI also works to ensure a future vaccine will be accessible to all who need it.

Infectious Diseases Research Institute

The IDRI's mission is to find treatments and cures for diseases that continue to burden individuals and countries in the developing world. The IDRI targets neglected diseases based on their threat to public health and lack of a vaccine, diagnostic or effective therapeutic. IDRI actively partners with industrial organisations to achieve control of selected diseases.

International HIV/AIDS Alliance

Established in 1993, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance) is a global partnership of nationally-based organisations working to support community action on AIDS in developing countries. The mission of AIDS Alliance is to support communities to reduce the spread of HIV and meet the challenges of AIDS.

Irish Forum for Global Health

The aim of the Irish Forum for Global Health is to contribute to improvement in the health of individuals and populations globally by creating networks that will promote research and education and advocate for investment in global health.

The Institute for OneWorld Health

The Institute for OneWorld Health develops safe, effective, and affordable new medicines for people with infectious diseases in the developing world. The Institute will serve as a positive agent for change by saving lives, improving health, and fulfilling the promise of medicine for those in need.

New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD)

The NEPAD strategic framework document arises from a mandate given to the five initiating Heads of State (Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa) by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) to develop an integrated socio-economic development framework for Africa.

Partners in Health

At its root, the mission of Partners in Health is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone. When a person in Peru, or Siberia, or rural Haiti falls ill, PIH uses all of the means at our disposal to make them well—from pressuring drug manufacturers, to lobbying policy makers, to providing medical care and social services. Whatever it takes. Just as we would do if a member of our own family—or we ourselves—were ill.

Roll Back Malaria Partnership

The RBM's mission is to work together to enable sustained delivery and use of the most effective prevention and treatment for those affected most by malaria by promoting increased investment in health systems and incorporation of malaria control into all relevant multisector activities.

South Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service

Established in 1994, SAfAIDS is a regional HIV/AIDS organisation based Harare, Zimbabwe. Its goal is to disseminate HIV/AIDS information to promote, inform and support appropriate responses to the epidemic.

South-South Initiative for Tropical Disease Research

The overall goal of the SSI is to promote interaction and research collaboration between investigators in DECs in the application of scientific and technological advances to the tropical diseases in the TDR portfolio.

UCLA AIDS Institute

UCLA AIDS Institute is committed to the eradication of HIV infection worldwide through research and clinical care. The institute shares its online resources through its resource link.

UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development

The Consortium’s vision is to promote an effective global response to HIV and AIDS that contributes to sustainable development. Its mission is to encourage, initiate and support collaborative action by civil society to contribute to and influence the global response to HIV and AIDS.

United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Webportal: Gender and HIV/AIDS

UNIFEM, in collaboration with UNAIDS, has developed a comprehensive gender and HIV/AIDS web portal to provide up-to-date information on the gender dimensions of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The site aims to promote understanding, knowledge sharing, and action on HIV/AIDS as a gender and human rights issue.

United Nations Development Program (UNDP)

UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organisation advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

UNAIDS - Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS

UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, is an innovative joint venture of the United Nations family, bringing together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organisations in the AIDS response to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for people living with HIV, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

UNICEF Ireland was established in 1962 and they focus exclusively on providing assistance to and for the world’s poorest children. UNICEF Ireland has a driving passion that builds a better world for children in which every child’s right to dignity, security and self-fulfilment is achieved.

World Health Organisation

WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
